About Me

Keisha Romania Holland was born on Chicago’s south side, and raised there as well as in Bellwood, Illinois.  She is an intuitive person who thinks of ideas and make plans to implement them.  As a student, Keisha was average and did not like reading or words until realizing reading could help her express herself.  Growing up Keisha had a variety of friends whom she learned a lot from and shared many experiences with.  These experiences exposed her early in life to issues of religion, race, sex, socioeconomics, and other dynamics of the human experience.  Learning about situations of unfairness in the world made her sensitive to the needs and circumstances of others.  Keisha’s disdain for injustice makes her aspire to work hard to make the world better place.  This inspires her to continue to acquire knowledge and to seek resources to share with others.   As a young adult, Keisha wrote many of the poems in Milieu, and some of the poems in Reading Playground.  Now more than ten years later, she has been able to make her longtime dream a reality and become a published writer.

What Inspires Me

I am inspired to write because of the reader I was as a kid.  As a young kid, I did not like to read and had no idea why anyone bothered to read because it was boring.  I was about eight when I realized that reading was like watching a movie or TV show in my head.  I like to write children’s stories to engage and encourage those students I was once like.  I hope to write many stories for children to read.  In addition to being a writer, I am a teacher who loves to see children grow into reading.  I am inspired every time a child applies what they learn about reading.  I especially want children to be motivated to read literature without bribery or consequences.  I am currently working on a new story about animals in their habitats.  This story is written as fiction and is sure to intrigue children of all ages.
